Depeche Mode - Martyr

Synthi-Trio Depeche Mode are releasing a Best Of (Volume One) this week. Check out the video of the only new track on this album "Martyr"

C-mon & Kypski

Went to a concert last saturday, I think one of the top 5 best bands of The Netherlands at this moment. Here some info, do yourself a favour and visit their website or myspace site and listen to some samples. Soon more on Attuworld!

C-mon & Kypski

Where the Wild Things Are

The guys of C-Mon & Kypski (Simon Akkermans, Thomas Elbers, Daniel Rose en Jori Collignon) let their fantasies run free for half a year. After two years of intensive touring (from Amsterdam to Istanbul, South by Southwest to Eurosonic) with the material of the second album ‘Static Traveller’, it was time for something new. At the end of 2005 they decided to give their fantasy a helping hand. With unshaven beards they left with a camper van full of ideas and recording equipment to Morocco. Over a period of four weeks they created what is now their third and latest album ‘Where the wild things are’.

The most concrete product of their journey is the new single’ Bumpy Road’ (digital release:6 October) which retrieved it’s name from the circumstances of the recordings. It is by far the happiest C-Mon & Kypski song till now, and irresistibly invites it’s listener to explore the wide world yourself.

Adventure, freedom and fantasy are C-Mon & Kypskis magic words. The journey to Morocco is a good example as well as the album title, ‘Where the wild things are’, which is refers to the famous children book from 1963, written by Maurice Sendak with the same title. Little Max was sent to bed as a punishment and experiences all kind of adventures in the magic forest arising in his room.

No wonder the music of C&K does not have any musical borders. At first the group made it easy for themselves to be put under genre hiphop/turntablism, but does not count any more. C-Mon: “it really is a C-Mon & Kypski album, but some influences have decreased, some added. Especially rock plays a big part whereas we didn’t use guitars before. Most important, we don’t cut and paste anymore, we used less samples for this album and played a lot more instruments ourselves. We’ve grown in creating a sound.”

And so C-Mon & Kypski unite a whole lot of genres into their own sound, from afrobeat to electro, a psychedelic dreamtrack that is coverted to a pumping rocksong. Where do you find klezmer and tango seamless united into one song? Of course, C-Mon & Kypski.

Until now C-Mon & Kypski did every dirty job on the album themselves, but on their new album they thankfully make use of the services of rappers Sadat X (Brand Nubian, USA) Pete Philly en Kain (The Last Poets, USA) saxophone player Benjamin Herman (New Cool Collective) and from Amsterdam: Klezmer Band and the rockers of Voicst also collaborated on the album.

C-Mon & Kypski is:
Simon Akkermans: samples, production
Thomas Elbers: scratches, beats
Daniel Rose: strings, guitars
Jori Collignon: piano, keyboards

Battle of the Album Covers

My aim was to show the world of bootlegs/mash ups for the outsiders, for the everyday open minded music fans. The tunes are not the latests, but each of them is a masterpiece. I have no tracks on this compilation, I did not mixed them, I do not want to promote myself on it, it is NOT about me. The WHA!? is about the art of mashing and the celebration of music.

That is what Simon Iddol has to say about his stuff. But what is left for me to tell is that there is some amazing mash up stuff. You just have to listen to Bikini vs. Afrika Bambaataa. Or another one I really like is the Barenaked Ladies vs Madonna and I should not forget Anastacia vs the Sisters of Mercy.

The Top 40 music moments in film history

There's nothing better for someone who's a fan of both music and movies to sit down in a theater, watch a film, and find yourself in awe of how the director has utilized a pop song to set a scene or convey a mood. It's easy to know that you need a romantic song for a romantic moment, but finding the right song…? That's the hard bit, and it gets even harder as you have to provide the proper sonic backdrop for just about every key moment in the film. Bullz-Eye polled all of our movie and music writers (and then some) to get their favorite uses of pop songs in movies.

Eddie Van Halen's Sacred Sin Gathering

On Saturday night, Sept. 30, I went to the greatest party of my entire life. And I have been to some pretty wild parties in my day, people. But this one took the cake.

The event, dubbed "The Gathering," was a release party for the Michael Ninn-directed adult film Sacred Sin, which features two brand new instrumental songs by the great Eddie Van Halen. The party was thrown at Eddie's house (!!!) and was an extravagant, decadent affair unlike anything I have ever been to.

Yes, you read that right, the porn party was at Eddie-friggin'-Van-Halen's house!!!

Thanks Kirk

As I've stated before: If it's Japanese, it's weird. Here's Bohemian Rhapsody in Japanese.

The beast is back with a new album called A Matter Of Life And Death. And to celebrate this there is now the official Iron Maiden game. And for two lucky winners they offer the chance to win tickets for a London show and signed artwork. I'll give it a try, although I already have tickets to the Iron Maiden show on November 27th in my hometown.

Dylan tops worldwide charts with new album

Bob Dylan reached the top of the U.S. pop albums chart for the first time in 30 years Wednesday, becoming the oldest living person to launch a new disc at No. 1.

The 65-year-old rock poet’s latest album, “Modern Times,” sold 192,000 copies in the week ended Sept. 3, his best sales week since tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan started using its point-of-sales data to collate the charts in 1991.

Johnny Cash and Ray Charles both had No. 1 albums in recent years, but they were released posthumously.

Woman given rock ballads ban

A council has successfully applied for an ASBO against a Cardiff woman who continually played loud power ballads.

Janice Lee, 37, has also had her four CD players and speakers confiscated to ensure her neighbours can get a good night's sleep.

Cardiff Council resorted to court action after neighbours in the Gabalfa area continually lodged complaints against her.

Lee, a mother-of-four, blasted out rock songs such as Europe's The Final Countdown, and sang along until the early hours.

Free Albums Galore

Welcome to Free Albums Galore, a full-album “mp3 blog” for listeners of eclectic music. What distingiushes Free Albums Galore from other mp3 blogs?

1. I post only complete albums, not individual or scattered tracks.
2. I post only albums with permanent off-site hosting, unlike other album blogs like Hepcatwilly.
3. I post only legally free albums, instead of blindly hoping copyright owners won’t mind me distributing their music.
4. I post at least one complete album per day.

The Beatles have topped the latest poll to find the nation's favourite Number One album.

Their most famous record, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, was yesterday revealed as the public's favourite record to have topped the album charts.

More than 220,000 votes were received by Radio 2 to compile the list, which was arranged to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the official UK album chart.

Aptly, the victory for the album comes on the 40th anniversary of the last public performance by the Fab Four - a live concert in San Francisco.

Baby Rock Records transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies, sending your little one to a slumberland of sweet dreams. Delicate instruments such as the glockenspiel, vibraphone, mellotron, harp and bells create a soothing atmosphere of sound. Robbie Williams Live in Amsterdam

This summer Robbie Williams played the Amsterdam ArenA for four days on his Close Encounters tour. Four sold out shows. That means four times 50,000 people came into that stadium to see him perform.

It also means even more people didn't get to buy tickets because the shows were sold out.

But you still wonder what the shows were like? Or were you one of the lucky people to be inside the venue and want to relive it again?

Lucky you, because here is the complete show from June 25th 2006. Ready for you to download. There are two cd's and should you want to burn it, there is also the option to download the front and back of the inlay for your cd.

Egypt's heavy metal scene emerges

The music was loud and the tattooed fans were wild, dancing and swaying in flashing strobe lights to the crashing sounds of heavy metal songs. Suddenly, the music stopped. The band leader grasped the mike and announced: "It's prayer time."

No one left to pray. Everyone stood by the stage and waited, as the band paused its music while a nearby mosque began the call to prayer from a loudspeaker. Then the music resumed.

Welcome to Egypt's heavy metal scene, making a tentative comeback in a conservative Muslim society nine years after a government crackdown amid allegations of satanic worship, drug use and group sex among the upper-crust youthful fans.

In the old days, when women still had their armpit hair growing until their elbows, we had the time of Rock 'n Roll. Every now and then some rockstar would bite the head off of a bat on stage. Every year at least ten rockers died of drugs and/or booze. Yeah, those heroes were used to a certain kind of lifestyle.

These days we are served bands like The Mars Volta, a couple of nitwits thinking they are the new, mean, tough guys of rock. They're not! They stop their performance when just a little bit of piss is thrown on stage! There's a simple word for those kind of wannabe rockers: SISSIES!

Facelift

Roland Janes is not exactly a household name. In fact, only those who are deeply involved with rockabilly music will know who he is. To the latter, though, his is a name revered. It was Janes, along with Scotty Moore and Carl Perkins, who developed the rockabilly guitar style at Sun Records. Janes was born the second youngest in a family of seven in 1933 in a river town in North-East Arkansas called Brookings. It had once been an important lumber community and Roland's father, besides playing guitar, had earned a living as a lumberjack. By the time Janes was born, though, the lumber industry had died and his father had quit playing music. He did have an older brother who apparently played piano, organ and guitar and several of his cousins played fiddle, guitar, steel guitar, etc.. In fact, of the extended family, Janes was the last one to really start playing.

Beck - Nausea

Wow. Just last week in this blog I noted how the music industry's deal with Gracenote for lyrics was also likely to lead to a campaign against Web sites that offer lyrics, chords and what's known as tabs -- diagrams that show how to play a guitar lick. And such a campaign would only be another foolhardy move by an industry that seems to have a tin ear for the Internet age.

Sure enough, if you go to the Guitar Tab Universe site -- popular among amateur musicians -- you're now greeted by a letter from site manager Rob Balch: "The company which owns this website has been indirectly threatened (via our ISP) with legal action by the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) as well as the Music Publishers' Association (MPA) on the basis that sharing tablature constitutes copyright infringement."

A pair of 20-year-old kids from Everett, Wash., who make up the band The Scene Aesthetic, are rock stars on the Web, and virtually unknown anywhere else.

"Internet is where we are," says vocalist Eric Bowley, who along with Andrew de Torres drew up a strategy for promoting their fledgling rock band on social-networking sites like News Corp.'s MySpace.com.

On that site alone, The Scene Aesthetic has had 2.3 million visitors and more than 124,000 "friends," code for people linked to their page. On PureVolume.com, a popular site where bands can post their music, fans have listened to their album "Building Homes from What We've Known" 1.3 million times. Over at YouTube.com, the music video of their first song, "Beauty in the Breakdown," has been watched over half a million times.

Okay, so you ended up on Attu Music. We would like to make Attu Music bigger and better than it is at the moment. And for that I think we could use your help.

Do you think you have the ability to write blog entries about music and music related stuff (CD reviews, concert reviews etc.) and do you think you are the right person to join the Attu Team? Then come on and send me an e-mail and we will work things out....

About 200 Kiss fans protested in front of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to demand that the band be inducted into the hall.

Fans, some from as far away as California, carried signs Saturday and had painted their faces in black-and-white to resemble Kiss band members.

Those participating in the half-hour demonstration were upset that the band, formed more than 30 years ago, has not been admitted, even though it has been eligible since the late 1990s.

James Blunt ParodyJames Blunt (of the recent "You're Beautiful" song fame) gave the go ahead to Weird Al Yankovic, but that didn't stop James' record company from stepping in to cockblock Weird Al and prevent him from releasing his "You're Pitiful" parody on the upcoming "Straight Outta Lynwood" album this September.

Fortunately for Al and his fans, the internet puts the power of one into the hands of many, and he's got the song available for free download on his site.

Fortunately for you that's not the point of this post, rather this other James Blunt workplace parody that you might better be able to relate and appreciate. (Download link includes both WMV video as well as Weird Al MP3)

500 Greatest Songs Of All Time

There are many, many songs to choose from. But Rolling Stone Magazine did a feature on the 500 greatest songs of all time. The last five songs are these: 496. Miss You, The Rolling Stones, 497. Buddy Holly, Weezer, 498. Rainy Night in Georgia, Brook Benton, 499. The Boys Are Back in Town, Thin Lizzy, 500. More Than a Feeling, Boston.

But I know you don't agree with that list and you have your own favorite songs. So which songs are in your top 5?

The Rolling Stones will return to North American for another leg of their A Bigger Bang tour, which is destined to be the top-grossing trek in history. The second North American leg, which follows a run of European stadiums, will launch on Sept. 20 at Boston's Gillette Stadium. The dates will be sponsored by RadioShack.

The Stones are the top-grossing band in the world for the first half of 2006, with nearly $150 million in grosses and 1.1 million in attendance, according to Billboard Boxscore. A Bigger Bang is expected to ultimately ring up total box office of more than $400 million.

Be Mike Portnoy

As anybody who knows me personally would tell you, I am the walking definition of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder..... I always have been and probably always will be...

This curse for me means that when I "get into" something, I can't just casually enjoy it.... I become obsessed with every aspect of it.... If I discover a band that I like, I must go out and get their entire catalog. If I see a film I like, I must go out and see every film that the director has made...and even worse, collect the director's entire body of work for my video, laser & DVD library...

And if he wants to drum, he wants to drum. But now you can drum along with Mike Portnoy too!

Live 8 hero Bob Geldof has been forced to cancel two concerts in Italy because of lack of public interest, after only 45 people turned up to see him perform in Milan, Italy's La Stampa newspaper reported on Saturday.

Geldof walked out of Milan's 12 000-capacity Arena Civica on Friday without playing, given the paltry attendance. His manager explained that a concert for less than 400 people would not be viable, the newspaper said.

The 54-year-old Irish rocker, who said he had flown in from South Africa for the gig, sought to placate angry fans afterwards by promising to give a free concert in September.

Is Nelly Furtado bisexual?

Canadian (I thought she was Portugese...) singer Nelly Furtado admits she's attracted to women and believes all people are essentially bisexual. The Promiscuous star believes people should have the freedom to experiment with their sexuality and has no qualms being attracted to the same sex. She tells European gay magazine GUS, "I'm reading a book about Chinese medicine, which claims that people are inherently bisexual to balance their energies. "And, in a way, that makes so much sense. As humans we have both male and female energies. "I believe Kurt Cobain's statement that, in the end, everyone is gay. Everybody should have the freedom to experiment. "I believe sexual experimentation is part of human history."

Bowing at No. 1 on The Billboard 200, Nelly Furtado's "Loose" is the sole album to sell more than 100,000 copies this week in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan. The Mosley Music/Geffen set shifted 219,000 units, earning Furtado her best single-week sales and her first No. 1 on the big chart.

The album's first single, "Promiscuous" featuring Timbaland, has been inescapable on radio and has peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Furtado's 2000 debut, "Whoa, Nelly!," peaked at No. 24, while her 2003 sophomore set, "Folklore," topped out at No. 38.

Former Culture Club frontman Boy George will fulfil court-ordered community service as a sanitation worker, a New York city spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.

"He will be part of our team," sanitation spokesperson Keith Mellis told the Associated Press. "We won't know exactly what he will be doing for several weeks, though."

The singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, pleaded guilty in March to falsely reporting a burglary at his Manhattan apartment, where arriving officers found cocaine.

Axl Rose spent most of the day in a Stockholm jail cell after allegedly biting a security guard in the leg at his hotel, police said. The Guns N' Roses frontman was arrested early this morning (June 27) after attacking and threatening the guard and causing damage to the Berns Hotel, where the alleged scuffle took place, police spokeswoman Towe Hagg said.

Rose was released from jail this evening, after he admitted to the charges and agreed to pay a fine of $5,500, Hagg said. The 44-year-old rocker was also ordered to pay $1,360 in damages to the security guard.
